Johnnie Byrd has been a practicing member of the Florida Bar for over thirty years, practicing in the areas of personal injury and wrongful death, business law and litigation, criminal defense, and family law. He has been a member of the Florida Bar since 1977 and has practiced law with offices in Hillsborough County since 1988. Johnnie is also a member of the Alabama Bar.

Johnnie graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Business Administration in 1973 and received his law degree from the University of Alabama in 1976.

Johnnie served in the Florida House of Representatives from 1996 to 2004 and served as Speaker of the House from 2002 to 2004.

Johnnie is the founder and a member of the board of the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer's Institute at the University of South Florida.

Byrd is a past president of the Plant City Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Plant City Rotary Club.

Johnnie and his wife Melane have four children and attend Plant City's First Baptist Church.
